#GirlsCan is a feminist art project that works on topics like gender based violence, boundaries and ways to take action with girls and young women. In close cooperation with OMSi Glasergasse, artist Petra Stelzmüller ("Undine kommt"), and the Democracy Center Vienna, the project involved a participatory exploration of the topic over the course of several weeks through six workshops. This resulted in graffiti, a brochure, and an exhibition. Various theater education methods were used to lay the foundation for creating collaborative graffiti pieces. The girls designed these pieces themselves and sprayed them in Sigmund Freud Park. Additional synergy was created by having the girls inscribe their feminist messages and demands directly on a section of Petra Stelzmüller’s art exhibition, "Undine kommt." In further workshops, the girls developed a brochure on the project's theme and wrote the articles themselves. The brochure, along with all the steps and products developed and documented during the project, was presented as part of the OMSi School Sports Festival.
Through public relations efforts organized as part of the project and in consultation with the girls, the project was able to communicate their demands and opinions to a wider audience. These efforts employed creative and artistic means, as well as the participants' own words. Thus, the project provided a space for a more in-depth exploration of gender-based violence and taught new skills, such as spray painting, brochure writing, exhibition design, and speaking with journalists.
