The study of killings of women in Austria in recent years covers two levels. On the one hand, police crime statistics from 2010 to 2020 were evaluated including male and female perpetrators and victims, taking into account all criminal charges as well as charges exclusively against (ex) partners and family members.

On the other hand, court and prosecution files from 2016 to 2020 were analyzed, focusing first on all killings of women and girls, regardless of the gender of the perpetrator, and then on femicide. The files relating to femicide were also subjected to a qualitative analysis focusing on perpetrator typologies.
